In Their Words

"I'm a single mother. What I saw in Women's Money Matters was a way to empower women to be financially independent. You don't need an unreliable boyfriend. You don't need a husband if that doesn't happen for you. You can do it on your own."

LauraProgram Leader

"Before I started the topic, 'financial literacy' brought me feelings of anxiety."

AnonymousParticipant

"Our staff values Women's Money Matters because we recognize how fundamentally important financially literacy is. It's the springboard for anything our residents want to do in their lives. It's great to have hopes and dreams, but that financial foundation is how they're going to get there."

Thanks to an unbelievable outpouring of support from our amazing community this Giving Tuesday, we raised an incredible $39,144, 594% of our goal of $6,592 (the average annual pay gap for women in our programs)!

With your support, we’ve achieved an increase in women served of 145% already this year, and we are excited to support and empower even more women to gain control of their financial futures. Whether you posted on social media, shared our emails, or made a donation - THANK YOU for your generous contribution.

As we end the year, Women’s Money Matters is ready to partner with women in our communities to help make the most of what they have and support their families. Financial Freedom is the goal!

Today, people around the world will come together to celebrate generosity and make an impact on Giving Tuesday.

At Women’s Money Matters, we aim to raise $6,592 to support women in our communities living in low-income and transitional housing.

Why $6,592? We found that women in our financial wellness programs earn $6,592 less each year than their male counterparts due to the 30 cent average wage gap. The gender wage gap is a pressing issue in our society. Financial freedom allows women to feel secure and empowered, have opportunities, and have peace of mind.

By donating today, we can continue empowering women financially and fighting for pay equity!

We are proud to partner with Boston’s Women’s Workforce Council in creating this powerful video about the pay equity gap between men and women. The average gender wage gap in Greater Boston is 30¢, and more for women of color. We calculated that the women in our programs, on average, make about $6,592 less than their male counterparts.

We asked a few of them how that 30% more income of $6,592 a year would impact their lives. Their answers were honest, touching, and empowering. Watch the video to hear their voices directly, and let’s continue the fight to close the pay equity gap! #WomensMoneyMatters #BWWC #MaPoli #WageEquityNow

Big shoutout to our 15 Found in Translation participants who graduated! This group was amazing, and program lead Severine, wanted to share this lovely message. “This group almost brought me to tears. They participated throughout the workshop and shared their appreciation for the sessions and their coaches. Barbara wrote an impactful statement in the comments, and I thought it worth sharing: "This is such important work—a lot of us did not grow up with this information. Cycle-breaking-life-impacting."

Hearing such testimonials puts a smile on our faces as it reminds us of the work we are doing every day!

We are thrilled to announce a new partnership with the Emerton House!🎉

Women helping women is at the core of the Women’s Friend Society’s commitment to helping others. Today, the Society carries out its mission through the operation of Emmerton House and support for other Salem organizations.

Members—all women and all volunteers—participate through committees whose work ranges from knitting hats for premature babies to helping at Brookhouse, a historic Salem rest home for older women.
When Emmerton House opened its doors in 1879, providing a home for women and girls studying and/or working in the Salem area was considered revolutionary.

Today, Emerton House provides affordable housing and a safe environment for 20 women of all ages and backgrounds working or students in the Salem area.

We are glad we now have another option to refer our program participants to. Please let us know if you know another group we should partner with.💜
